To the more than 600 Hermsoa Beach residents, business owners and visitors that completed the The New Upper Pier Avenue Residents Survey . . .SURFinHermosa says: THANK YOU ! ! !
And SURFinHermosa will present the data from The New Upper Pier Avenue Residents Survey at the August 12, 2008 Hermosa Beach City Council meeting at 7:00 pm.
Dear neighbor,
Thank you again for taking the New Upper Pier Avenue Residents Survey and for expressing your views regarding the major redevelopment plans for our City’s “Main Street.”. The community response to the SURFinHermosa survey has been excellent, generating more than 600 resident and business owner responses. By way of comparison, the UPAC survey generated 479 responses.
The tabulation of results is nearly completed and a full report of findings will soon be posted on the SURFinHermosa web site (http://www.surfinhermosa.com).
Several Steering Committee members made our announcement plans known to the Council during the July 21st meeting and shared with them some of the many detailed comments residents added to the survey (as a prelude to our announcement). You can view these statements on the Hermosa Beach Video link “Regular City Council Meeting, July 22, 2008”, during the public comment portion of the meeting.
The first public announcement of survey results will be made on Tuesday, August 12, at the Hermosa Beach City Council meeting, beginning at 7:00 P.M. We hope that all of you will come to show your support – wouldn’t it be great to have ‘standing room only’? You might even want to step up and personally make your opinion known.
We will also publicize our survey findings and present them to the Planning and Public Works commissions at their next scheduled meeting, as well as at meetings of various Hermosa Beach service clubs.
Be assured that we are following the redevelopment process closely and will keep you posted on all important developments as they occur or become known.
Again, thank you for participating – we are all in this together and we can't do this without you!

JULY 15, 2008
SURFINHERMOSA.COM EXTENDS DEADLINE TO JULY 31, 2008
FOR SUBMITTING NEW UPPER PIER AVENUE RESIDENT SURVEY
Based on the strong support and interest shown by Hermosa Beach residents during the Memorial Day weekend, SURFinHermosa.com has agreed to extend the submission period for its new Upper Pier Avenue Resident Survey from Saturday, May 31, to Thursday July 31, 2008.
After August 1, survey results will be independently tabulated and a full report of findings will be posted on the SURFinHermosa web site, as well as made available timely to the Hermosa Beach City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 12.
The New Upper Pier Avenue Resident Survey was launched on May 15, 2008 to gauge current viewpoints of business owners and residents regarding the City’s plans for Upper Pier Avenue. Similar to the City’s Upper Pier Avenue Committee survey of residents, conducted more than a year ago, this is an informal survey. The difference is that it is being conducted by a group of residents with non-financial support of various Upper Pier Avenue businesses. It is independent of city government.
“We are encouraged by initial response we have received by our fellow residents,” said the group’s spokesperson, Jeff Duclos. “People have willingly stopped on the street during the weekend and taken the time to fill the survey out, or have taken the time and effort to fill it out and drop it in the mail. It is clear to us that residents want to make their views known, especially at this critical juncture of the Street’s redevelopment process, and we are glad we can provide a mechanism for them to do so.”
SURFinHermosa is a newly formed community group comprised of civic minded Hermosa Beach residents, many who are currently active with community issues, who have made a commitment to work together in a more united effort to protect and enrich the traditional quality of life in our city.
